uptothesky was yesterday, and as expected, no one word can sum up how it was. it was good. it was great. it was amazing. it was along those lines.
As usual, i was early in meeting the cousin. I was starving. When the cousin finally arrived, we got sandwiches at starbucks. I finally got to taste the spinach&mushroom quiche. (PS, hey doesnt spinach&mushroom sound like a cool band name. No? Only me then.)
The quiche was alright. After eating and drinking our drinks, nomnom the toffeenutlatte is delicious, we headed off to find Mount Sophia. We got lost at first, i mean, where the hell was mount sophia?! In the end, as suggested, old school @ mount sophia, was up a mini mountain. We had to climb the many flight of stairs which, was sort of bearable. I just didnt look down due to my fear of heights. Finally, after panting and gasping for air, we arrived at Old School. Damn, the amount of hipsters was a bit... WOW. I've never really seen that many hipsters at one area and i instant felt out of place in my chucks, flannel shirt and skinny jeans. The place itself was really nice. I can't believe they're shutting it down to build more condominiums. Old school>New School tbh, if that makes any sense. The crowd was really small too unfortunately. Maybe it was the lack of advertising, maybe it wasn't well known enough? Or maybe people just didnt support independent artists enough, which is pretty sad.
We thought Sore was on at first when we arrived and were psyched to catch The Trees & The Wild live. Unfortunately, after a couple, we realised the whole lineup schedule had changed and the first band we properly caught was Sore. Sore was good. I couldn't hear the vocals at all but they were pretty good. Everyone was sitting down while they were performing, which i was quite thankful for because i was still tired from climbing up the stairs.
After Sore, TTATW finally came on!! They were amaaaazzziiiinggggggg. Urgh the whole band looked so cute. I was crushing on every single one of them, including the girl. Wish they had played Irish Girl but the set was really good nonetheless. The rain started to pour right as they started playing which was... interesting. The pitter-patter of the increasingly heavier rain added a nice backdrop to their music. It also started flooding slightly during their set which didn't deter anyone. I even overheard the girls beside me saying they've only ever heard one song by TTATW and that they were now fans. They really are that good.
Oh and seeing Vincent Moon dance to TTATW was quite a sight. Amazing.
White Shoes & The Couples Company were next. Before WSATCC came on, the members of TTATW came out and chilled at the back of the crowd. Cousin was too shy to go up and take a photo with them... and well, so was i. They were so cute though. When WSATCC came on, dressed in i think... 70s/80s/maybe 60s garb, the crowd was pumped up. I think i'd been listening to the wrong songs by them online, they were amazing live. They brought so much energy to the stage it made the crowd dance along. Very happy-sounding songs. UGH, AND TTATW WERE AT THE BACK DANCING AND SINGING ALONG TO WSATCC WITH VINCENT MOON. Too much guys, too much cuteness. Slaying me. And the drummer of WSATCC had Rhys Webb hair. Qt. After everything, cousin went to get food as we waited for the next band, Great Spy Experiment i think. Damn, WSATCC walked past us and all we did was smile politely at them. Too shy to say anything. Then we watched them take photos cutely by the Brewerkz mini bar thing. Cute tbh.
Then Great Spy Experiment was alright. Then we were tired so we sat down to rest at some stairs and listened to Chad Valley from there. He sounded really good too. Wish i was in the crowd during that set but no regrets guys! After Chad Valley we headed into the crowd for Deerhoof. Lets just say how mindblowingly AMAZING Deerhoof was. SO LOUD. Damn, the singer was damn cute. Japanese people are just naturally cute i think. The frontman/drummer was funny and witty. After that we headed to the mackie stage(?) for Mogwai's DJ Set. After climbing up the stairs to the room where the mackie stage was... right as we came up, the guitarist and drummer of white shoes were just entering the room. They looked at me and smiled and i think i gave them the "...hey...aren't you guys white shoes... are you though?" look. Kinda confused i think. Mogwai's DJ set was pretty good i thought. We left soon after because we were too hungry. As we were leaving, we bumped into the two guitarists from Deerhoof. Smiling politely again because we were too afraid to say Hi. :')
We went to eat instant noodles and then went home. It was a good day. It was an amazing day. It was an amazing concert. Also, my first concert in the rain was FUN FUN FUN.
Only regrets was not getting photos with the bands and not attending the Vincent Moon/takeawayshow thingy. Oh and not catching Zebra&Snake. Besides that, no regrets. It was just too good.
I hope there will be second uptothesky next year. It was way too good. Makes me pumped up for Laneway!
Oh and staring at cute guys who were rocking out to the bands was fun too.
